Sweden is an EU/Schengen Nordic country with universal healthcare, near-universal English proficiency, and strong social services. Long-stay residency for non-EU nationals is via skilled employment, family reunification, or self-employment. Naturalisation requires 5 years of residence (4 for spouses of Swedes); language and civic-knowledge tests were added from 2024 onwards. Sweden permits dual citizenship. Income tax is progressive up to ~52% (national + municipal); the expert-tax regime gives a 25% reduction for high-earner foreign hires for 7 years.
