Fintiba

blocked account provider

Last verified 2026-07-28

Fintiba is a Frankfurt-based fintech that provides a German "blocked account" (Sperrkonto) — the frozen deposit German missions require as proof of funds for student and some residence visas (€11,904 for a 12-month student visa in 2026, released at about €992/month) — optionally bundled with statutory or private health insurance.

The blocked account is euro-only and can be opened online with only a passport before you arrive in Germany. Fees for accounts opened from late 2025 are roughly €159 to set up plus about €9.90/month (~US$11), and a small transfer buffer is recommended.

Important: Fintiba does NOT accept US-tax-status persons (US citizens or green-card holders) because of FATCA/anti-money-laundering rules — US applicants should use Expatrio or another provider. The blocked account itself carries no debit card; a separate current account (with a card) is opened after you reach Germany.
