Germany
DEUGermany's immigration framework has been substantially liberalized following the Skilled Immigration Act (Fachkräfteeinwanderungsgesetz) reforms phased in through 2023-2024, which expanded the Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte) points-based system and eased recognition of foreign qualifications and work experience thresholds. Since June 27, 2024, Germany permits dual and multiple citizenship for all naturalisation applicants, removing the prior requirement to renounce a previous nationality (with narrow historical exceptions no longer relevant). The standard naturalisation residence requirement was also shortened from 8 to 5 years, with a fast-track 3-year path for applicants demonstrating exceptional integration (C1 German, self-sufficiency, civic engagement).
