🇱🇺 Pet Import to Luxembourg

Luxembourg applies EU Pet Travel Regulation (EU) No 576/2013. Pets arriving from other EU states need an EU Pet Passport, ISO microchip implanted before vaccination, and a rabies vaccine at least 21 days old, with no quarantine required. Non-EU arrivals from unlisted countries must present a FAVN rabies titer test (≥0.5 IU/ml) taken 30 days after vaccination, followed by a 3-month wait, plus an official health certificate. Because Luxembourg is landlocked within the Schengen area, most pets enter overland, and document checks are typically lighter than at major air hubs, though full EU compliance is still legally required.

Vaccination requirements

  • Rabies vaccination (after microchip, minimum 21 days before entry)
  • Core vaccines recommended (distemper, parvovirus for dogs; panleukopenia for cats)

Transport

Luxair and other carriers serving Luxembourg Airport permit small pets in cabin under standard EU weight limits; larger dogs travel as cargo. Given Luxembourg's small size, many pet owners instead arrive overland from Belgium, France, or Germany with standard EU Pet Passport checks.
