🇧🇧 Pet Import to Barbados

Barbados historically required lengthy mandatory quarantine for imported pets given its rabies-free status, but participation in the regional rabies-free certification scheme now allows entry without quarantine for pets from approved rabies-free or rabies-controlled countries that complete a microchip, rabies vaccination, and antibody titer test with the required waiting period, alongside an advance import permit. Pets from countries not covered by the simplified scheme, or missing any required step, can still face mandatory quarantine or refusal of entry. The most common failure points are underestimating the lead time for the titer test and waiting period, missing the advance import permit application, and confusion over which origin countries qualify for the simplified non-quarantine pathway versus which still require full quarantine. Confirming current requirements directly with Barbadian Veterinary Services well ahead of travel is essential.

Barbados requires an advance import permit from the Veterinary Services division, a microchip, rabies vaccination, and generally a rabies antibody titer test under the regional Trinidad Rabies-Free Certification Scheme framework, allowing entry without quarantine when all steps and waiting periods are completed correctly.
