El Salvador
SLVEl Salvador is the smallest and most densely populated country in Central America, bordering Guatemala, Honduras, and the Pacific Ocean. It adopted the US Dollar as legal tender in 2001, eliminating currency risk for foreign residents, and in September 2021 became the first nation in the world to recognise Bitcoin as legal tender. The government subsequently launched the Chivo digital wallet and established a Bitcoin treasury reserve. A proposed Freedom Visa programme — requiring a one-time $1 million USDT contribution — aims to attract high-net-worth individuals with permanent residency and a streamlined path to citizenship. El Salvador operates a strict territorial tax system: foreign-sourced income is not subject to local income tax. Dual citizenship is constitutionally permitted. Security has improved markedly since 2022 under the Bukele administration's anti-gang crackdown, and the country is increasingly positioned as a crypto-friendly destination for entrepreneurs and investors.
