Croatia
HRVCroatia is the EU's newest Schengen member (2023) and adopted the euro the same year. Strong English proficiency, a low cost of living relative to Western Europe, and one of the most generous descent regimes following the 2022 amendment to the Croatian Citizenship Act. Croatia introduced a dedicated Digital Nomad visa in 2021 — one-year renewable, tax-free on foreign income for the holder. Naturalisation is comparatively long (8 years for ordinary residents), but descent-route applicants under the 2022 reform can claim through three generations of Croatian ancestry without language testing.
