Bulgaria
BGRBulgaria joined Schengen in full from January 2025. The country offers one of the lowest tax burdens in the EU (10% flat PIT, 10% corporate tax) and the lowest cost of living in the bloc. Long-stay residency is via Type-D long-stay visa and subsequent extended residence permits — skilled employment, family reunification, retirement (proof of pension), and self-employment all available. Bulgaria's repatriation regime offers fast-track citizenship for ethnic Bulgarians and descendants of Bulgarian emigrants. Bulgaria's previous citizenship-by-investment programme was abolished in 2022.
