🇲🇨 Pet Import to Monaco

Because Monaco has no international airport of its own and is fully enclosed within France with an open land border, pets effectively enter via France and are subject to French/EU pet travel rules: microchip before rabies vaccination, a valid EU pet passport for EU-origin pets or an EU health certificate for pets arriving from outside the EU, and the standard 21-day wait after a first rabies vaccination. There is no separate Monégasque quarantine or import permit process. The main failure point is travelers assuming Monaco has distinct national rules; in practice, compliance is judged against French/EU requirements at whichever French port of entry (airport, port, or land border) the pet actually passes through, most commonly Nice Côte d'Azur Airport. Non-compliant pets would be handled under French, not Monégasque, procedures.

Transport

Monaco, a microstate enclosed by France with open borders, applies the same EU pet passport / EU health certificate framework as France. Pets must be microchipped before rabies vaccination and travel with a valid EU pet passport or animal health certificate; there is no dedicated Monégasque border checkpoint for pets.
