🇮🇩 Pet Import to Indonesia

Indonesia's quarantine authority, Barantan, requires an advance import permit, an ISO microchip, rabies vaccination, and typically a rabies antibody titer test given the country's endemic rabies status in several provinces (though Bali and some islands are rabies-controlled zones with their own rules). Dogs and cats without a satisfactory titer result or complete documentation can face quarantine of roughly two weeks at an approved facility, while well-documented pets from recognized rabies-free countries may qualify for reduced holding. The most common failure point is confusing Bali's stricter, semi-autonomous rules with the mainland Indonesia process.

  • Rabies vaccination (at least 30 days before travel, plus titer test for most origins)
  • Core vaccines recommended (distemper, parvovirus for dogs; panleukopenia for cats)

Transport

Garuda Indonesia and other carriers permit pets as cargo through Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta Airport, where the Indonesian Agricultural Quarantine Agency (Barantan) inspects all arrivals. An import permit must be obtained before shipment, and IATA-compliant crates are required.
