Lanka Hospitals

Lanka Hospitals is Sri Lanka's flagship private tertiary-care facility, located in Colombo, and the country's only hospital to hold Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, first awarded in 2010 and maintained through subsequent renewal cycles. Originally opened in 2002 as Apollo Hospitals Colombo under a joint venture with Apollo Hospitals India, the facility transitioned to independent operation under the Lanka Hospitals Corporation PLC banner and is listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange. The hospital offers a broad multi-specialty service covering cardiology, interventional cardiology, oncology, orthopaedics and joint replacement, neurosurgery, and executive health screening. A dedicated international patient centre coordinates care for visitors from the Maldives, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and the Middle East, who collectively account for a substantial share of the approximately 18,000 annual international patient visits. Direct billing is available through Cigna Global, Allianz Care, Bupa Global, and AIA Sri Lanka, reducing out-of-pocket burden at point of care. Clinical staff communicate in Sinhala, Tamil, and English, and the hospital maintains telemedicine services for remote pre-consultation and post-discharge follow-up. Cardiac surgery, including bypass procedures and valve replacements, is among the highest-volume services. Pricing is materially below comparable procedures in Singapore, Thailand, or India, making Lanka Hospitals a cost-effective option for regional medical tourism.
