🇮🇳 India — Embassies & Consulates
India maintains a growing global diplomatic presence managed by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), with over 190 missions abroad including embassies, high commissions, consulates, and representative offices. As a Commonwealth nation, India uses high commissions when posting to fellow Commonwealth member states. Indian consular services overseas cover passport and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card services, emergency travel documents, civil registration, notarial services, and assistance during emergencies for Indian nationals abroad. The MEA's travel advisory system and the MADAD consular services portal provide digital access to grievance redressal, appointment booking, and service tracking. India has significantly expanded its diplomatic network over the past decade, reflecting its growing geopolitical weight as the world's most populous country and a major emerging economy. Indian missions are particularly active in Gulf Cooperation Council states, where over nine million Indian nationals live and work. The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) works alongside formal diplomatic missions to promote Indian culture, education, and the Hindi language internationally. India also has large consular volumes tied to its extensive diaspora, the largest in the world at over 32 million people across the United States, the United Kingdom, the UAE, and beyond.
