The country remains under martial law, and Ukrainian male nationals aged 18–60 face exit restrictions and military mobilisation obligations, making physical relocation by foreigners impractical for the foreseeable future. The hryvnia has depreciated sharply and infrastructure in eastern and southern regions has sustained severe damage. Ukraine's EU candidate status, granted in 2022, positions it for eventual accession. For diaspora and descendants of Ukrainian nationals, citizenship-by-descent provisions offer a legal pathway to documentation without requiring physical presence. Dual citizenship remains formally prohibited, though 2024 legislative amendments began narrowing exceptions, particularly for those with EU member-state citizenship.
