Tonga is a Polynesian constitutional monarchy of 169 islands in the South Pacific, with a population of around 100,000. The economy relies heavily on remittances from overseas Tongans, tourism, and subsistence agriculture. Nuku'alofa, on the main island of Tongatapu, is the political and commercial centre. Tonga offers visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 124 destinations. The country does not permit dual citizenship, and naturalisation requires five years of lawful residence. There is no citizenship-by-investment programme. Healthcare infrastructure is limited, with serious cases often evacuated to New Zealand or Fiji. English is widely spoken alongside Tongan.
