Guinea

GIN

Guinea is a West African republic bordering Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, Mali, Côte d'Ivoire, Sierra Leone, and Liberia, with Conakry as its coastal capital. The country holds some of the world's largest bauxite reserves and significant deposits of iron ore, gold, and diamonds, making natural resources the dominant economic sector. Despite mineral wealth, Guinea ranks among the lower-income nations by per-capita GDP, with limited infrastructure outside Conakry. French is the official language; Pular, Mandinka, and Susu are widely spoken. Guinea has experienced recurring political instability, including a military coup in September 2021 that dissolved the constitution; a transitional government has been in place since. Healthcare capacity is basic. Dual citizenship is not formally recognised. Naturalisation requires ten years of lawful residence.
