Angola
AGOAngola is a large oil-rich republic on the southwestern coast of central Africa, bordered by the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, and Namibia. Luanda is one of Africa's most expensive cities due to its expatriate-heavy oil sector. Portuguese is the sole official language, a legacy of colonial rule that ended in 1975. The country has made significant economic strides from oil and diamond revenues, though wealth distribution remains uneven. Dual citizenship is not recognised, and naturalisation requires ten years of legal residence. The Angolan passport grants visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to around 47 destinations, mostly within Africa.

Common Risks
- ⚠Airport customs shakedown — officials detain travellers without cause and demand cash bribes, sometimes planting items in baggage
- ⚠Online romance/employment scams — fraudsters pose as expats in Angola needing financial help or offer fraudulent job placements requiring upfront fees
- ⚠ATM card skimming — foreign-card-compatible ATMs have inadequate anti-skimming safeguards; card data is frequently compromised
Examples of areas to avoid: Rocha Pinto — outer suburb near the airport, consistently high-crime and prone to civil unrest especially after dark, Cazenga — dense historically underserved district with elevated crime rates and gang territorial disputes, Roque Santeiro market area / downtown after dark — hotspot for pickpocketing and scooter-borne snatch-and-grab robberies
