🇹🇷 Pet Import to Turkey

Turkey requires dogs and cats to have an ISO-compliant microchip, a rabies vaccination valid for at least 30 days before entry, and a veterinary health certificate issued shortly before travel. No routine quarantine is imposed on compliant pets, and a rabies antibody titer test is generally only required for animals arriving from countries without recognized rabies control or without valid vaccination history. Because Turkey straddles EU-aligned and non-EU practice, requirements can differ slightly by land border versus airport, and the most common failure point is an expired or improperly dated rabies certificate at the point of entry.

Vaccination requirements

  • Rabies vaccination (at least 30 days and no more than 12 months before travel)
  • Core vaccines recommended (distemper, parvovirus for dogs; panleukopenia for cats)

Transport

Turkish Airlines and Pegasus permit small pets in cabin under weight limits (commonly 8 kg with carrier); larger animals travel as cargo. IATA-compliant crates are required, and a veterinary health certificate must be issued within 10 days of travel for most routes.
