🇲🇾 Pet Import to Malaysia
Malaysia requires an advance import permit from the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services (MAQIS) before a pet can travel, and classifies source countries into risk categories that determine quarantine length. Dogs and cats from most countries face a mandatory quarantine of around 10 days at a MAQIS-approved facility, plus rabies vaccination, microchip, and a veterinary health certificate issued shortly before departure. Pets from a small list of rabies-free or low-risk countries may qualify for reduced quarantine. The most common failure point is arriving without a pre-issued import permit, which results in the animal being denied entry or re-exported at the owner's expense.
