🇰🇪 Pet Import to Kenya

Kenya requires an advance import permit from the Directorate of Veterinary Services, an ISO microchip, current rabies vaccination, and a veterinary health certificate for incoming dogs and cats, with no standard quarantine imposed on pets that meet these requirements. The permit application typically needs to be submitted well before travel and matched precisely to the animal's passport and vaccination dates. Given Kenya's significant expatriate and safari-tourism population, pet relocation is relatively common, but the most frequent failure point remains booking travel before the import permit has actually been approved and issued.

Transport

Kenya Airways and other carriers serving Nairobi permit small pets in cabin under weight limits, with larger dogs as cargo. An import permit from Kenya's Directorate of Veterinary Services must be obtained in advance, and animals are inspected on arrival at Jomo Kenyatta Airport.
