🇩🇰 Pet Import to Denmark
Denmark, as a European Union member state, follows the EU Pet Travel Regulation (EU) No 576/2013, administered nationally by the Fødevarestyrelsen (Danish Veterinary and Food Administration). For travel from other EU countries or EU-listed third countries, pets (dogs, cats, and ferrets) must be ISO 11784/11785-compliant microchipped, vaccinated against rabies at least 21 days before travel, and accompanied by a valid EU Pet Passport issued by an authorised veterinarian. No quarantine is required for compliant animals. Pets from non-listed third countries face stricter requirements: a FAVN-approved rabies antibody titer test (≥0.5 IU/mL) must be conducted at least 30 days after vaccination and at least 3 months before travel, along with an official animal health certificate. Up to five pets may enter non-commercially; more than five requires a commercial import declaration. Notably, Denmark's Faroe Islands and Greenland fall outside the EU framework and maintain separate, often stricter, import rules that must be checked independently. Under Denmark's Dog Act (Hundeloven) of 2010, 13 breeds are banned from import, ownership, and breeding, including the American Pit Bull Terrier, Tosa, Fila Brasileiro, Dogo Argentino, Kangal, and Central Asian Shepherd; dogs of these breeds present in Denmark before the ban may be grandfathered with mandatory muzzle and leash requirements in public. All dogs in Denmark must be registered in the national Dansk Hunderegister. Exotic species require CITES documentation and compliance with Bekendtgørelse om indførsel af vilde dyr og planter.
